"This review necessarily steps from an opportune premise made by the author himself, the original Shy drummer Alan Kelly. He presents this DVD as a collection of non professional footage, mostly shot by himself, through which he’s now decided to give the truest fans of the band the chance to share his most intimate memories regarding his past membership in Shy.
So, while the 3/5 of the original line-up is preparing a Shy comeback by releasing a brand new album titled “Sunset and vine”, Alan Kelly, who feels he has unfairly been excluded (you can read his side of the truth here:
http://shy-england.4t.com/Alan%20On%20Shy%20Page.htm is going to offer the fans a deep retrospective of Shy through this double DVD. This product includes some extremely rare live excerpts, fairly good although just being private shots, which allow an interesting sight at Shy live onstage at Marquee in London, plus in a Dutch small club, and at last in the suggestive scenery of the Winter Palace’s square in St. Petersburg, during a 1992 gig the band played as Crazy Crazy, with John Ward (recently with Oliver/Dawson Saxon) replacing Tony Mills on vocals.
Basically this release is meant to be a sort of memories album, with a plenty of off-stage footage, which are not necessarily music-related. So you will be given a chance to take a brief look at some rehearsals, at Shy during some studio recordings or some photo sessions. You’ll also be shown various “making of...” up to a cool acoustical jam inside a pub. This all included in a sort of tourist report of the various worldwide tours Shy were involved in during their best days. And the insight is so deep that you’ll even get the chance to see Alan with his pants down!!!
These short excerpts are often accompanied by an excellent soundtrack made by some of the finest tunes the band ever released, which add a further value to this issue. This double DVD also includes four promo clips as a bonus, which offer a summary of the band’s career up to their brilliant “Welcome to the madhouse”, which was released in 1994.
The technical limits of this product have been quite honestly underlined by the author himself, so it is basically meant to be a release for die-hard fans of the truest Shy. But the spirit of this self-production is undeniably appreciable, as it’s a true gift Alan Kelly is offering, for everyone to get a chance and enjoy some extremely interesting and rare Shy live appearances and, most of all, to have access to his personal archives and share his most intimate memories about his great music experience. And this is a cool gift, definitively...
This double DVD can be ordered on-line at Shy official website http://www.shy-england.4t.com where you will also get a much more detailed description about its contents."
